Merantau Warrior - Lanskap Baru Filem Indonesia?

Plot/Sinopsis :
In Minangkabau, West Sumatera, Yuda a skilled practitioner of Silat Harimau is in the final preparations to begin his "Merantau," a century's old rites-of-passage to be carried out by the community's young men that will see him leave the comforts of his idyllic farming village and make a name for himself in the bustling city of Jakarta. After a series of setbacks leave Yuda homeless and uncertain about his new future, a chance encounter results in him defending the orphaned Astri from becoming the latest victim of a European human trafficking ring led by the wildly psychotic Ratger and his right-hand man Lars. With Ratger injured in the melee and seeking both his "merchandise" and bloody retribution, Yuda's introduction to this bustling city is a baptism of fire as he is forced to go on the run with Astri and her younger brother Adit. With escape seemingly beyond their grasp, Yuda has no choice but to face his attackers in an adrenaline charged, jaw-dropping finale.

Really good action movie (teringat zama Barry Prima yang gagah tapi kayu dan menggunakan suara pelakon lain di dalam filemnya - Namun tidak bai Iko Uwais) which has the Asian mysticism, tradition and culture, which also has long captured the attention and imagination of Western viewers. The story is based on the traditional custom of “merantau” where a rural adolescent male has to make their way to the city (or other country) to seek his path of enlightenment. Lebih kurang macam Ong Baklah nii. Yuda (Iko Uwais) not just very good in the Silat Harimau, hansome young actor but also can act beautifully with the caractor given. Before being given an opportunity to act in the movie, Iko Uwais studied Silat Tiga Berantai since he was 10 years old. Although "Merantau Warrior" marks his film debut, this ex-lorry driver's acting has make us go'wow' and give us 'moment' too and he is able to execute his action stunts convincingly (ala-ala Jackie Chan). JaseMario believes that with this movie, he's able to launch his career as a full-fledged action star. (Yes !!! I really believe that he can make it BIG one day !!!) The action scenes are expertly choreographed and make the Indonesian Action Movie into the next level (The new lanscape, I suppose). The spirit of Nationalism, Humanism and Martial Artistry is carried out at its best !! (Malaysia movie makers also could follow this). But.... why they have to kill Yuda in the last scene. It would be good it we could have a happy ending instead. (pps : saya baru sempat menonton filem ini semalam meskipun telah hampir dua bulan DVD ini dimiliki. Alasan? Remote Control DVD Player saya meragam !!!)
